SAHIFO project. Computer program for hydrodynamic analysis of ship forms
This was a joint project between IZAR, SENER, CYPSA and CEHIPAR for the development and validation of a method and software for the predicting the wave resistance coefficient of ships (Cw), taking into account the sinkage, the bow and stern trim and the viscous corrections for wave height and wake, using hulls without appendages, neither heel nor drift.
Various methods exist to achieve the objectives mentioned, such as the finite element method or Havelock’s direct Cw expression, but they are more time and resource consuming.
The objectives of the present R+D work is to develop an easy, reliable method, rapid enough to be used at the preliminary design stage.
The adjustment and further validation of the program are based on the use of CEHIPAR’s hull data base. This contains NAVANTIA, SENER and CEHIPAR model-test results, plus the recent results of three more hulls tested in our Calm Water Tank.
